ERASER

The DVD edition of this great action movie is brought to you courtesy of Warner Bros, now this DVD has been on the market basically since the initial inception of DVD so Warner Bros could be forgiven if this release was not up to scratch in terms of picture and audio quality. But no for an 'old' DVD on the market it is demo quality.

It stars the old action faithful Arnold Schwarzenegger as Federal Marshal John Kruger, a member of an elite group within WITSEC that erases the identities of witnesses whose proposed testimony puts their lives in danger. Kruger's lethal talents and unique training make him the best of the secret force of elite federal marshals, he is so good at what he does that associates call him "Eraser." Now he faces his greatest challenge. He needs to protect his witnesses from someone inside his own organisation whose knowledge and training are a match for his own. He soon finds himself on the run to save the one woman who holds the key to the truth. Lee Cullen (Vanessa Williams) holds this secret. She has the information that would blow the lid off a high-level government conspiracy that involves the illegal sale of advanced high powered firearms to terrorist groups. The figures behind the conspiracy want her dead at any cost.

Although this film was not as successful as other 'Arnie' action flics such as True Lies it still is a great action movie none the less and sports some incredible action sequences, the picture transfer is excellent, with superb detail and colour saturation. The DVD comes equipped with both widescreen (2.35:1) and Pan & Scan transfers, but one would want to stick to the widescreen version as the Pan & Scan on the reverse side has been severely cropped. Digital artifacts are non-existant and the picture is clean and vibrant.

The audio tracks come with both Dolby Surround & Dolby Digitial, the digital soundtrack really rocks which will shake the timbers and annoy the neighbours, the digital mix also has alot of punch and makes good use of the surrounds for directional effects and channel seperation. The surround track is also acceptable for those without AC3 capability.

Overall this is a great DVD to put your Home Theatre System through it's paces, the sub-woofer will thank you when the movie finishes so it can have that hard earned rest. Highly recommended.
