With the advent of DVD, its great to see not only films make use of this medium, but also music videos. Now we are treated to multi-angle concerts and all sorts of things.

Madonna’s latest single aptly titled "Music" is now available on DVD from Warner Music, as a DVD single. There are two versions of the music video, one the "standard version" the other an extended version with an intermission featuring Ali G blabbing about something or other.

So How Does This Transfer Hold Up?

VIDEO
Simply Immaculate, they’ve definitely used Like, a Virgin print here! :) Though presented in the 4x3 format (one is assuming this was shot full frame, being a music video for TV) it’s incredibly good. Here’s one case were oversaturation is deliberate and looks terrific! This is essentially faultless for both the transfer and encoding. Say no more!

AUDIO
Music has a solid 2 channel PCM mix. (48 Khz, 16bit) In this day and age it would have been nice for a 5.1 mix, even so, this 2 channel mix is clean and clear though much of the sound seems focused to the centre with some split left and right sounds happening. It’s does sound good, but lacks a decent spread across the stereo front for my liking.
Bass Attack is dominant in this mix with it’s contast forceful rhythmic boom!! (Sadly, techno-dance style! Is how I’d describe that component of the music :), but the bass is pretty clean sounding none the less)

EXTRAS
With a PC Friendly interface on an IBM compatible PC you will get a nice DVD-ROM menu with access to the two video clips as well as a link only to maddy’s Music web site. (lyrics would have been a nice addition for DVD-ROM!)

Frankly Warner Vision have quite a cheek asking $20 for this DVD which has essentially 1 music clip. Granted they aren’t likely to move 40,000 or 50,000 copies of it in a short amount of time like some of the big DVDs in region 4. But then again it wouldn’t have cost anywhere near as much as they cost so it’s all relative.

It may be a great looking and sounding DVD, but the price surely ain’t! Maddy lovers only need apply.

MUSIC is available from Ezy DVD.
