....

Ahhh the bliss of a Hollywood romantic comedy. It’s a thought free process, which can be enjoyed without the concern of whether it will be a brain buster or not. The wedding planner is right up there with the best of them. A slow but cute plot with big name actors guaranteed to be a blockbuster!

Jennifer Lopez plays Mary Fiore a high profile wedding planner in San Frisco who is famous for planning the biggest and best weddings in town. She’s also a lonely young woman just waiting for the man of her dreams to fall into her lap or onto of her as the case may be. When Steve Edison saves her from being skittled by a garbage bin she thinks all her dreams have been answered. He’s an attractive doctor with a sense of humour and a compassionate character.

What she doesn’t know is that he is also the groom in her latest wedding plan.

The groom finds himself in a little bit of predicament and of course throw in the odd Italian arranged marriage and you have the perfect romantic recipe for disaster.

The ending is pretty obvious from very early in the film but lets leave it for you to watch and find out.

So how does this DVD Scrub Up?

VIDEO
The 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is about as close as you can get to reference quality. The film is perfectly sharp and concise throughout. Shadow detail is also perfect.

There are no mpeg artefacts and only the smallest of film to video artefacts but this really is not a problem anyone would normally notice. Film artefacts are also barely noticeable.

The greatest attribute to this transfer is the colour detail. There are a plethora of colours on offer here and all are treated exceptionally well. The broad range of colours in just one scene at a wedding could pose a nightmare for the transfer, but no problems can be found anywhere. Saturation is perfect! I can’t speak highly enough of this transfer.

AUDIO
The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track unfortunately doesn’t live up to the video transfer.

Whilst dialogue is clear and concise throughout the rest of the audio is not as impressive. The surround channels are used sparingly and you could be forgiven for thinking this was purely a 2.0 track. There were only one or two times where I really noticed any effects from the surrounds. Similarly the LFE channel didn’t get much of a workout either, only really making itself felt during some of the score.

The music from Mervyn Warren was most memorable for being an atypical romantic comedy composition and nothing else.

EXTRAS

  • Dolby Digital Aurora Trailer
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Trailers for Muriel’s Wedding and The Wedding Singer
  • Cast and Crew Bios: Lots of detail here.
  • Featurette: The Dancer and The Cowboy: 3 minutes of behind the scenes footage and interviews from the dancing scene and horse-riding scene with Jennifer Lopez and Mathew McConaughey
  • Featurette: Making of: 3.5 minutes of promotional bits, interviews BTS footage etc, lacking in any depth really.
  • Deleted Scenes: 4 deleted scenes with commentary from the director
  • Audio Commentary: Adam Shankman: Not a bad commentary, lots of background information to the film still with a promotional feel to it though with the scriptwriters doing there best to impress the director.

OVERALL
I really enjoyed this as a typical chick flick which is really not a heavy film but merely purely entertainment.
