Everybody knows things were better in the 1950’s – just look at those classic TV sit-coms like "I Love Lucy", "Leave It To Beaver" and "Father Knows Best"! Now two modern day teenagers are about to find out first hand. Tobey Maguire teams up with Reese Witherspoon, Jeff Daniels and William H. Macy to star in the colourful drama, PLEASANTVILLE available to rent and own on DVD from January 8 2001.

PLEASANTVILLE on DVD offers Deluxe Widescreen presentation, Dolby Digital 5.1/ Dolby Surround Sound and English subtitles.

Full of exciting extra features, this DVD offers commentaries from director/writer Gary Ross plus the music video for "Across The Universe" from Fiona Apple.

Go behind the scenes to the making of the movie - "The Art Of Pleasantville" and enjoy featurettes on the special effects, shooting the film, printing the film, the storyboards and the mural.

PLEASANTVILLE on DVD also includes the theatrical trailer, cast and crew biographies and scene selection.

Nominated for two 1998 Academy Awards® for Original Dramatic Score and Costume Design, PLEASANTVILLE, with its magnificent cast is a comical and imaginative film about the life that was, the life that is and the life we’ve all wished we could some day visit.

The story is set in 1999 and teenager David (Maguire) is a dedicated fan of PLEASANTVILLE, an old TV show set in a utopian small town USA, circa 1957, where things are definitely simpler. A very different place to today with cable television, divorce and teen sex. While David is definitely a big fan of the show, he definitely did not plan to actually be in PLEASANTVILLE.

Incredibly David and his sister, Jennifer (Witherspoon) are transported into a black and white ‘teleworld’ of perfection with no need for bathrooms. Forced to take on the persona of TV siblings Bud and Mary Sue, they bring their modern habits and desires into an excessively polite and sex free small town environment. But when they teach the ‘tele-folk’ how to express their true feelings, they realise that life in Pleasantville is anything but black and white!

In 2001, Roadshow Home Entertainment will continue to deliver exciting DVD titles including DOGMA, FREQUENCY and RULES OF ENGAGEMENT.

Roadshow Home Entertainment delivers the best titles on DVD.
