"Replacement DVD Case Offer"

Whilst Compact Discs are generally packaged in a standard "Jewel" case, the same consistency has not always been the situation for DVD movie discs - although most Australian DVDs came in plastic transparent cases, Warner Bros DVDs instead sold in cardboard "snapper" cases.

Back in April 2000, Warner Bros discontinued the "snapper" case and switched to the same plastic cases used by other Australian distributors. Consumers welcomed this move, but "early adopters" of the DVD format were left with old discs still packaged in cardboard.

Thanks to online discussion forums at an Internet site known as DVD Plaza, the opinions and wishes of consumers have been heard. Warner Bros, having read hundreds of messages at DVD Plaza pleading for replacements to their old cardboard cases, generously agreed to supply replacement slicks free of charge!

According to DVD Plaza's Chris Till, members at his site include everyday consumers, almost all the online stores, most of the distributors, all the major DVD sites in Australia, and folk throughout the industry and media. "This environment for the first time gives consumers a way to let their thoughts be known to key people in the industry," explains Chris, "and Warner's gracious offer is another example of just how valued the opinions of our members are".

To cater for the enormous demand anticipated for the slicks, Warner Bros contacted DVD Plaza and DVDown Under to handle the distribution. "Realising the possible magnitude of the job at hand, DVD Plaza and DVDown Under have pooled resources in order to deliver replacement Warner DVD slicks to all budding Australian and New Zealand DVD’ers" explains DVDown Under's Matt Goldsmith.

When DVD Plaza begins fronting the online ordering of the Warner slicks from Monday 15th January 2001, consumers will have two options - obtaining the slicks free of charge from DVD Plaza (to insert into pre-purchased cases), or to purchase cases at a discount and having the slicks preinstalled by DVDown Under.

DVD Plaza can be found at www.dvdplaza.com.au and DVDown Under at dvdownunder.com.au
