DVD PLAZA Opening Doors Monday!!!
DVD, once a futuristic home entertainment format
available at specialty hi-fi stores and importing from overseas, is now in virtually every
department store. Despite this Australians are still in the dark about what DVD is and are
often fed incorrect or inaccurate information. Those who take the plunge are often forced
to pay full retail price.
On Monday 20th December DVD changes in Australia forever
with the opening of the world's first shopping mall dedicated exclusively to DVD. DVD
Plaza is an online venture show casing the best of Australian DVD vendors, provides a
wealth of information about DVD, catalogues the best bargains currently available, and
features online discussion forums for DVD enthusiasts to share knowledge and experiences.
"Australian DVD consumers have watched the 20-80%
discounts on DVD movies going on in the US, and conceded that this could never happen in
Australia" says DVD Plaza's Chris Till, "but that's far from the truth, there is
already considerable discounting going on in Australia and far more to come."
DVD Plaza was a concept Chris had considered for over a
year, but held off until the market was ready. "When I first became involved with DVD
mid-last year there were a whole 20 or so movies, very little hardware, and finding DVD
stores and/or information was virtually impossible. I had been waiting for DVD to come out
and when it finally did it was a nightmare to try and make sense of it.", Chris
continues "Whilst things have certainly changed in the past year with over 500 movies
now available (5000 in the US) and a wide range of hardware, the consumer confusion and
frustration is worse now than ever before."
Chris believes consumers are often fed inaccurate and
conflicting advice by sales staff. "I have heard sales staff giving ridiculous advise
to consumers, made worse by department stores carrying only two or three DVD players and a
small selection of the full DVD movie range." Chris explains, "Consumers are
being given a very wrong idea about DVD...it's pathetic, and it's stalling the growth of
DVD in this country."
The concept of a shopping mall housing the best in DVD was
something Chris had wanted to do for some time, but with Australias small market the
idea had to wait. "With a large range of hardware and movies now available, the 'fad'
millennium weeks away, and the 'real' millennium in one year now was the time for DVD
Plaza." says Chris.
DVD Plaza's online shopping mall features some of the best
names in DVD and offer the full range of DVD products, coupled with friendly and
knowledgable customer service and excellent prices. Chris adds "There are yet more
online DVD stores preparing to open their doors and have already begun talks to join DVD
Plaza's online mall, some breathtaking movies about to come out in the format, and awesome
discounting is really going to start taking off. We are already seeing 20-50% discounting
on some DVD titles and DVD players are now hitting the sub $600 price mark. I'm really
excited!".
DVD Plaza officially opens its doors to cyberspace on
