Babylon 5 Poster - HERE NOW!!
Before the Star Trek SUPERPOSTER", Hugh came up with this Babylon 5 poster.  It's now also available thru our DVD Station.
DVD Station (Simitar DVDs, Star Trek & Babylon 5 Posters)

WARner and DVD

Over the past year or so, quite a few region 4 DVD'ers have voiced their disappointment with some of the decisions Warner have made regarding DVDs for the Australian market.  When Romeo Must Die was thrusted upon as as the FIRST warner Region 4 NTSC DVD, people where quite taken back at this very outter left field decision, but seemed to let it slide at the end of the day.  Pretty soon, we saw more and more region 4 NTSC DVDs coming from Warner and people started to wonder what the hell was going on. THEN in a very braisen attempt to stir things up, Warner started stamping "NOT FOR RENTAL" on their DVDs in at attempt introduce a 2 tiered system... RENTAL DVDs and RETAIL DVDs.  THEN a 4x3 only version of the second highest grossing film in the world, Harry Potter was dumped on us, with no sign of the widescreen version released everywhere else in the world AND with absolutely NO explanation as to why this happened to us Aussie DVDer's!.

Up until now a majority of the region 4 DVD sites and other media avenues have voiced their disappointment over these "non standard" Region 4 DVD guidelines (if that's what you could call them) and it seems that while people are hearing it , no one has really listening, and so it has been business as usual, possibly until the other day..
WELL!  DVD Plaza certainly let fly over all this, and the forums are on fire over Chris's "controversial" editorial.   Some have slammed him for the extreme nature of his comments, whereas others have applauded him as being someone who is finally had the balls to speak up  about a topic that has miffed many DVD'ers for far too long.
While the editorial could be seen as the rantings of a Region 4 DVDipstick, due to the use of coloruful language, the points made were very valid AND it's now got people talking about it, which it seems was the intent from the getgo. (nothing stirs the juices in some more than few naughty curse words :)

I for one hope that it helps straighten things out with some of Warner's decisions in their DVD release plans.  I especially find it majorly depressing to pick up a DVD, only to find that "Little Red Triangle" in the corner of the cover :(   besides, the STUDIOS were the ones to enforce region coding on us in an attempt to control DVD releases on a region by region basis, so what the hell are people with PAL ONLY TVs suppose to do when their favourite Region 4 Warner DVD comes out in the NTSC format?  (and i have quite a few friends who are still in this boat)

Anyway, if you haven't been reading the DVD Plaza forums, i suggest you drop by, take a read, and leave some constuctive critisism (and leave the naughtly language to Chris please :)

A DVD with Sting
While it's unfortunate Region 4 Universal are going the rental route first with The Mummy Spin-off, The Scorpion King, they have done 1 thing good by region 4. (the retail release will be just prior to Xmas) Unlike the upcoming USA DVD release, The region 4 verison of The Scorpion King comes with a DTS5.1 audio track!!
One really had to wonder what's going when not more than a year ago, many Aussie DVD releases were absent of DTS audio when their USA counterpart wasn't.  Now we're seeing a growing trend of Aussie DVDs getting DTS, when the USA verisons don't, with films like Dune, 13 Days, Mad Max, Jeepers Creepers, Back to the Future parts 1, 2, & 3, and now The Scorpion King.

A DVD to BAND together For
Currently screening on Channel 9 is the Speilberg/Hanks TV miniseries of Band of BrothersBased on Stephen E. Ambrose's nonfiction bestseller, BAND OF BROTHERS tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Starting with their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942, it recounts the achievements of the elite rifle company from D-Day to the fall of Nazi Germany and the surrender of Japan.
Warner Home Video are set to release the 10 part miniseries to DVD on 27th November and it is set to be a real cracker.  Not only will the DVD include an 80 minute documentary "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company", the series itself sports an Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer taken from a high definition digital master and on the Audio front we get, not only, a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack BUT in a shock move, a DTS 5.1 audio mix! (yikes!!!) as well as English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround tracks.
Additional bonus materials that are exclusive to the BAND OF BROTHERS DVD set include a 30 minute feature showcasing "The Making of Band of Brothers," Ron Livingston's "Video Diaries" featuring the experience of making the miniseries through the eyes of one actor, a featurette of HBO's premiere screening of the miniseries on the beaches of Normandy and “Who’s Who: The Men of Easy Company”.
character biographies, scene selections, web-enabled links to the BAND OF BROTHERS "Living Memorial" and other relevant sites, a still photo gallery, episodic previews and a series index.
