Star Trek TNG DVD Review!
Gearing up for the release of Star Trek TNG Season 1 on DVD and the start of the NEWEST Star Trek TV show simly entitles Enterprise, Paramount issued a groovy little press kit, in the guise of a Star Trek Logo'd tin box.   Amongst the goodies in this tin box was a sneak peak at Disc 7 for the upcoming Season 1 DVD release of The Next Generation.
I was suprised to find that this DVD contains not only the Spec Features as previously mentioned, BUT also the final 2 episodes of season 1 TNG.  So with scrubbed up picture and a remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 track here's our review!

A Whole lotta review'n going on
When it rains it pours. Cass has reviewed Crocodile Dundee in LA, Sopranos Season 2, Sweet November and The Wedding Planner.
I've reviewed An American Werewolf in London, Star Trek Season 1 Disc 7, Superman :SE & Superman 2

Lantana on DVD
Released late last year to theatres was Ray Lawrence's brilliant Lantana.   Lantana was the sort of film that initially didn't receive a big release, but as word of mouth got around, it was soon playing in all the big cinemas and it also proved a winner at the Aussie Oscars taking out quite a few major awards.  Director Lawrence's last film was another acclaimed hit, Bliss (coming soon to DVD from Roadshow if i'm not mistaken).
As a bit of movie trivia, Bliss was made waay back in 1985, and so it was 16 years before Lawrence make his 2nd feature film! (that's a hellofa break! :)

More Fabulous Reviews Sweetie Darling
There are 3 things that Cassandra loves. Britsh TV shows, Australian movies and Jonathan Lipniki (you know, the squirt from Jerry Macguire with the big glasses).   Her latest reviews contain all 3.  Ab Fab Series 1 (the Brit TV Show), He Died With a Felafel in his Hand (the Aussie Movie) and Little Vampire(starring that kid with the big glasses)

The Enemy is Driven by Fear
Cass may have steered clear of the reviews for a little while, but she back in full steam with Driven. (yeah alright i know it was lame! :)

Paul has also reviewed Enemy At the Gates and Fear.  The latter which starred 2 little known (as actors )but now very much in demand actorsMark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon

Double the Motion for Star Trek
Phew....the upcoming Star Trek : The Motion Picture DVD will be a 2 disc release afterall!

The Specs for the second disc where simply on another spreadsheet (it was simply left off when we were sent the information)

All in all there's almost 1 hour of featurettes, and 50 odd minutes of outtakes, additional scenes and trailers, etc, etc.

BTW We've check with Paramount and you can expect Star Trek : TNG Season 1 boxset to sell for about $220 to $230. (Now that GST is in place there is no actual  Recommended Retail Price as such..so a Retailer can put whatever price you want on a product..)

Have the Whole Pie, not just a slice!
When American Pie 2 hits Region 4 DVD this June, we will be treated to the "unrated" version, not the "theatrical cut" released around the world....YAY!

Like American Pie 1, the nudity, sex and sexual gags were toned down for the USA release in an effort to avoid their dreaded NC-17 rating.  As a result this "american R Rated version" is what was released all around the world.    (actually, i'm thinking after the success of the first AP and doing an "unrated version" this one is just another marketing gimmick to draw more sales...fine by me as it means there will be a few extra gags we won't have seen in theatres :)

For the DVD release of AP1, Universal USA released both the "theatrical" version and an "unrated, uncut" version.  (not to mention Pan & Scan versions, and Ultimated Editions!..and on  and one they went...man did they milk this one for all it was worth!)

Unfortunately for us region 4 DVD'ers we only got the Theatrical Version of AP1 on DVD, but all that is about to change when AP2 is released!

The Plan from Columbia Tristar is to release the uncut version of AP2 this June (with Dolby and DTS tracks) .  AND also the UNCUT verison of AP1.....BUT you will only be able to buy the Region 4 UNCUT version of American Pie 1 in this double disc boxset.
The Single DVD release version of AP1 will remain the theatrical version :(  (no doubt with the extent of re-releasing, re-marketing and re-packaging, AP1 uncut version will get a single disc release for region 4 at some point...seems silly not to really)

Extras wise, AP2 is doing a Se7en!  In additon to the Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 tracks, we're also getting FOUR separate audio commentaries!   (am i the only one who LOVES commentaries but STILL thinks this is getting a bit ridiculous?  I mean really "maybe" 4 very broad commentaries on a cinema classic like Pee-wee's Big Adventure is justifiable, but American Pie 2?  dunno about that :)

The Uncut Version of American Pie 1 has a few goodies also, many of which are found on the Current DVD version.  A Commentary, music clip, behind the scenes...the usual stuff

CTHE April/May/June Releases
April 2002 seems a quite month from Columbia with only 2 DVDs.  John Carpenter's (didn't quite make it, but is still a bit of fun) Ghosts of Mars, and The replicant.  Both are Anamorphic Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.  GOM features a comm track with John and leading lady Natasha (Species) Henstridge and quite a few other extras, whereas The Replicant is a bare bones release :(

May sees the release of a few soppy looking films (gees, you might be guessing it's mothers day or something from the lineup :) starring Julia, Sybil, Shirley and Kathleen.
America's Sweethearts, Chances Are, Guarding Tess, Peggy Sue Got Married.
All are Anamorphic Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound (except Peggy, who is sadly only in Mono :(

In June CTHE are releasing the aforementioned UNCUT versions of American Pie 1 and 2, as well as  Riding in Cars With Boys (the one with Drew Barrymore), Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Animal House!  All are Anamorphic Widescreen and only AP1, 2 and Boys get a Dolby Digital 5.1 track (AP2 also getting DTS)

Full specs for all will be published over the next few days.
