Still Waiting on HEAT DVD Slicks
Just in case you haven't popped over to DVD Plaza of late, you may be unaware that we (being
us and DVDplaza) didn't receive any DVD slicks for HEAT from Warner (an oversight).
It wasn't until we started shipping off orders that we noticed they were even missing!!!!
(afterall, we had some 3500 odd slicks to sort thru and alphabetise, and warner had well
over 10,000 to sort though first)
Warner will be sending both sites HEAT slicks shortly, and we will then be dispatching the
orders which include slicks for HEAT. Sorry for the inconvenience, we know many of
you are anxiously waiting to get your slicks and cases (Paul, Chris and I haven't even
replaced ours yet we've been so busy with all this..honest!)
SLIGHT DELAY on Orders Sent Via Snail-Mail
Sorry for the short notice, but there will be delay on orders which have been sent via
mail order, and were not received before 25th January. Having to travel out of state
til early February, Ye 'Ol Post Office Mailbox will be unattended for a short while,
but do not dispare, your orders won't be lost or forgotten.
Please Note Orders paid for via B-PAY and Direct Debit, will NOT be delayed to
this extent.
If in fact you have, or intend to, mail us your orders, would you please drop us an email to let us
know.

Amaray Cases for the Warner Slicks that is)
If you placed such an order for replacing your
Snapper Cases with Amarays over at DVD Plaza, and HAVEN"T been emailed
the Payment details yet please let

It has taken us a good 6 days to process all orders received to date [in between packaging

Ordering!!!
Rest assure that you will be replied to in due course. But it may take a couple of
days.... don't worry, there are plently of slicks and cases to go around for the

Some great news passed our way yesterday. Paramount Pictures, the LAST
of the major studios holding out on DVD in Australia, are going to launch into region 4

The Lead title (at this point) will be the the John Singleton remake of SHAFT. This,
along with 11 other titles will make up the initial region 4 Paramount DVD catalogue
(Region 4 Star Trek Fans rejoice as several titles will be Star Trek Moofies!..yay)
Interestingly, there was no mention of MI:2 in this initial batch (which was the title
mentioned when Paramount were hoping to launch back in December 2000)....hmmmmm
The official press release is expected in a week or two (but we thought you'd like to know
at least a little of this info now :)DVD

SIREN DVD Release Update
We're increasingly seeing more independent DVD distributors jumping onto the
DVD bandwagon in OZ, and Siren seem to be doing it better than most, in terms of utilising
more of the DVD Technology itself at least, and giving the consumers what they want
(though they still seem intent on doing rental only DVDs now and then :(
Unlike some smaller labels (who shall remain nameless) Siren have been releasing a number
of their titles not just in Widescreen, but in Anamorphic Widescreen.
Their January lineup includes a mixture of 4x3 full frame, letterbox and Anamorphic
Widescreen Transfers, most notably is the 16th January release of the Brilliant James
Whale [semi bio] Gods and Monsters.
Siren have not only been good enough to release this in all it's gorgeous anamorphic
Widescreen Glory, BUT the best part is it's coming with a Dolby Digital 5.1 track.
Theatrically, this was released in Dolby Stereo (it was made on a budget of $3million
after all....which was close to the budget set aside for the evian water Cher used to wash
her hair for one of her recent music video clips :). The USA DVD of G&M was also
released in Dolby 2.0 and in it's own right sounds very nice, but it ain't
5.1...heh-heh-heh :).
Sadly our release is missing the 30 minute James Whale documentary, but still contains the
excellent Bill Condon Commentary track, trailer, cast and crew bios and Production Notes.
SRP is $34.95
Also Due for release on the 16th January from Siren is the Rental only version of Tim
Roth's WAR ZONE. it's letterboxed only, with a Dolby 2.0 track,
behind the scenes interviews, trailer and Cast Bios (it's good too see even if this is a
rental only that there are some extras included! )
Better Living Though Circuitry, a doco on the rave culture, was shot on digital
video and so comes in 4x3 Full Screen with a Dolby 2.0 mix, a director's comm track,
unedited interviews, trailer and a truck load of cast bios (SRP $34.95)DRAGONBALL Z : 3.4 , which I believe is japanimation, is 4x3
fullscreen, with Dolby 2.0 sound, trailer, Internet promo, story and character bios.
it carries a rather
low suggested retail price of $24.95
NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (Eps 5-8) Vol 2 (aka
Shin seiki evangelion) , more japanimation is 4x3 full screen,
multilingual in Dolby 2.0, subtitles, trailer, Internet promos, story/character bios and
motion based menus SRP is $29.95

Happy New Year and all that Crap!
It's finally 2001! The year set most famous by Arthur C. Clark with his
Novel of the same name, then Stanley Kubrick's Filmic adaptation of said novel. It's
scary to think the still classic film version was made well over 30 years ago, preceding
even Star Wars in the area of groundbreaking film style. This film and novel were
certainly the catalyst for sci-fi that followed.
Back to the DVD side of things, 2000 was certainly a big year for DVD, being in its Third
Full year for Australia with a tremendous amount of releases of mainstream and even the
ever growing independent films (even some without those nasty black bars at the top and
bottom of your picture!! :). We're now closing
in on 2000 DVD releases in Australia, sadly, but we're still missing PARAMOUNT as the only
other major DVDistibutor yet to commit to Oz. Paramount have been releasing DVDs in
the UK and Europe for a few months now offering several of the star trek Movies, the
original Mission Impossible, Drop Zone and more... Should us Aussies feel nothing short of
Insulted for being so overlooked? I think so.....HURRY THE BLOODY HELL UP
PARAMOUNT!!!!!)
Though Paramount seem to have left us at the alter....for the moment, independent film
distributors like Siren make up for it to some extent with releasing MONKEY to DVD for us
to enjoy! Will this TV series ever truly die? Not with DVD out there it won't
:)
Since hearing about DVD back when Philips & Sony were duking it out with Toshy &
Warner for the DVD standard (I still think it was just a conspiracy to generate a big
publicity stunt to peek peoples curiosity....it worked!) I for one was totally
possessed by those cute shiny discs with all that extra data crammed into such a small
space. For over 3 years I have been totally obsessed with DVD. Nothing has
taken over my life in such a way, no other hobby has held my Interest up for so
long. (and I mean that both mentally AND financially! :)
When losta little independents start releasing DVDs and the
bigger studios start Re-releasing in Special Editions, you know DVD is here to stay.
Long Live DVD!! and here's to the an even bigger DVD
Odyssey in 2001!
DVD Collector's Sets coming soon
Here's an interesting scenario. In the USA there's a company called Creative Design Art,
who are responsible for starting DVD collector's Sets with posters, photo stills, lobby
cards, and more..oh and a DVD of the movie is included. plus They come in a nice big arty
looking box. (click the link above to have a looksee).
This company is independently run from the major studios and have secured the worldwide
rights to all these goodies that come in these box sets (thought the movies on DVDs are
still owned by the studios).
Though Creative Art Design release these box sets in the USA, for the
region 1 USA market, DVD
Australia are to handle the releasing of these box sets within Australia
(with a region 4 copy the the respective DVD instead of the region 1 version).
Come mid January DVD Australia
will begin shipping a limited number of the "Deluxe Series" box sets to selected
on-line and retail stores. The region 4 Deluxe series box sets will carry a retail
price of $119.95. (the USA price of these versions runs for $US79.95...which
converts to about $A145.00).
Box sets in the initial limited run will include Blade Runner, The Matrix,
Twister, The Perfect Storm and Dirty Harry.
An ELITE Selection of DVDs
Evil Dead, Lady in White, Communion, and Uncle Sam are all movies which have
been released to DVD in the USA by Elite, and starting in February these same DVDs will be
available in OZ thanks to a distribution Deal with DVD Australia.
Features on these DVDs include
EVIL DEAD : Special Edition 1.33:1 Full Frame transfer, remixed Dolby Digital 5.1
audio, 2 audio commentaries, deleted scenes and outtakes, photo gallery, theatrical
trailer, and more.
