Upcoming DVDs
From Magna Pacific
Over the next few months Magna Pacific are set to release some great movies
on DVD. However, some may not be too pleased with how these movies are being
presented on DVD. In some instances, it's simply due to what Magna have been able to
get hold of from the bigger studios overseas. One of
the most asked about DVDs here at DVDown Under is SCREAM. There have been
several versions released on DVD around the world, the deadliest and most expensive is the
Japanese version which is UNCUT and Anamorphic Widescreen to boot.
Germany released 2 versions of SCREAM to DVD. the readily available FSK16 version
(which is ABSOLUTELY butchered, and i mean heavily censored..it's a shocker..trust me!!
and has the permanent German subtitles on the English DD5.1 track), and the not so
available thanks to German Censorship Laws, the FSK-18 version, which is reportedly UNCUT
and is Anamorphic Widescreen.
Having seen the excellent picture quality of the '16' german version (which has the
coolest morph from the Ghost Mask to the words "DVD" ), the 18 version,
assuming it truly is uncut would be the version of Choice!.. Buuut seeing as you
can't order this over the internet there ain't much chance of getting it!!
At any rate, Magna are all set to release their version of SCREAM to DVD on the
5th November this year, and while i have been Dying to see an aussie version of
this movie, i am a little disappointed with what's on offer... Unfortunately the
only bit of info we don't have on Scream is it's Aspect Ratio, but here's what we DO have

Sound Format Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 (M.P were regrettably unsuccessful
in getting a 5.1 mix from Overseas)

Collector's Edition
With a truckload of goodies, spread over a DVD9, DD comes to us at a price of $34 and an
aspect ratio of 4x3 matted 1.85:1. The soundtrack has undergone a remix and is Dolby
Digital 5.1 encoded. Bonus material on this Collector's edition DVD are

I got in biiiiig trouble last week when i posted the last lot of DVD news and

GLADIATOR in
DTS5.1!!!
It was Something of a shock to receive the Press
Release for the Gladiator DVD, to be released on 6th December, and find out
that not only will it contain a sure to be kick arse Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Track, BUT
also a SECOND 5.1 English Audio Track Encoded in.....gasp DTS!!!. Though
a joint release from Universal and Dreamworks, Gladiator will be the FIRST THEATRICAL FILM
released in Australia in PAL DTS5.1. Though no specific Extras are listed, it's a 2
disc jobbie to boot, so we're most likely talking a Dual Layer for Disc 1, with only the
moofy, and the 2nd disc loaded with Extras....sweeeeet Weekend Reviews
Well okay so there's not actually weekend reviews as Cass and I did them some
LAST week, her reviews are ready to post, mine well, i hand write mine at first, so have
to type them in!
