A Very Twisted DVD indeed
You know DVD can't be doing too badly when TV shows start to make an
appearance on this shiny disc'd little format.
And Magna Pacific are working on the ABC Hit Kid's Show Around the Twist
for their next DVD release.
Being a TV show, there are not going to be any extras, just 3 or 4 episodes per disc.
Only when 'Hey Dad' makes it's DVDebut will I be truly happy :-)
Warner's June DVD Schedule
More on the Friends DVDs. there are to be EIGHT
episodes per DVD (not 4 in total as i stated earlier...4 per side doh!), to cater for all
24 episodes of season 1, and at $34.95 each disc, that's a pretty good deal!
Also for release in June will be Goodbye Lover, Sommersby, Thumbillena, Willy Wonka and
Chocolate Factory, Three Men & a Little Lady, When a Man Loves a Woman, the 13th
Warrior(D&D on the 21st)..no specs on these as yet
PS Warner are looking very seriously into the
problem some folk are experienceing with their chock filled Sixth Sense DVD and
hope to have an explaination shortly.
Mike D has some info
over on his site about affected players and whatnot

MIB Coming to
DVD!!!
Though it's a few months away, the publicity machine over at Columbia is
starting to rev, and the Simultaneous Worldwide Septemeber release of Men In Black is
gonna be HUGE!!! As is the case with the USA release, you will be able to buy either
the Collector's Edition, which promises to be great, OR the Limited
Edition, which is simply gonna kick arse!!!!
At the moment no prices or features of these 2 DVDs are being revealed for region 4
(aren't those Columbians just plain mean!! :-)) But it's very likely that the limited
edition version of MIB will sell for a higher price, being a 2 disc set...will have to
wait and see on this oneMIB Press Release

Weekend Reviews
Paul has had a look at the gutwrenching Savior....(it's
pretty intense at times)
and Cass has whipped a review on another wonderful entry from John Sayles, Limbo.
Long Kiss DVD Remastered!!
When Long Kiss Goodnight and Turbulence were released onto Aussie Markets
last year, they were not compatible with any DVD-Rom drives (and even some of the cheapy
DVD players), so Roadshow have rebuilt Long Kiss Goodnight with the intent of it being
playable in all types of DVD machines!!!.
Not a great deal has changed with this DVD in terms of contents, but the extras have all
been reformatted for 16x9 playback, the MPEG2-5.1 track has been dropped in favour of a
Dolby 2.0 track, (to compliment the existing Dolby Digital 5.1 track), and the menus have
been redesigned and look quite nice, simple, but functional. The NEWEST and very
welcome additions are the NEW Dolby Digital Aurora Trailer(making this
the first region 4 DVD to include it!) as well as SUBTITLES for the
hearing impaired, a feature Roadshow are endeavouring to include on as many future titles
as possible..Long Kiss Press Release
During my holidays a little after Christmas, I
happened to be in Syndey and was very fortunate to be given the grand tour of the Roadshow
DVD Facilities. It just so happens that Long Kiss was being worked at the time, so I got a
brief, but good look see at what goes into making a DVD. (Will have an Exclusive
Report up on this Roadshow tour shortly).

Roadshow Press Releases
Hitting shelves, NOW, From Roadshow are Wag
the Dog, Rush Hour, and
The Planets.
Click Link Below for Press Releases.
Some way have noticed Rush Hour Already on the shelves, but at the last
minute it was discovered that there was a very nasty audio sync problem that was only
showing up on the earlier generation DVD players (and the sync Impaired Pioneer jobbies).
So the disc was recalled and this DVD (actually authored in Germany) was rebuilt.
This time around the syncing is sooo much better it's not funny!
As for The Planets this is one whopper of a DVD, ALL 8 Anamorphic
widescreen Episodes are included on this DVD totally some 380 MINUTES!!!.
you get TWO DVDs, both of which are dual layered, and as a result this DVD will be sold
for a higher price, being $59.95.
Considering the retail price of THIS DVD in the USA will be $US80, and
discounted to about $US55 by most region 1 on-line stores, you are
Definitely going to be better of sourcing it here. (besides, it hasn't been released
in region 1 yet!!!)Press Releases

Blair Witch Slick
As The region 4 DVD of The Blair Witch Project made it's way into my hot
little hand yesterday, the slick and very nice picture disc has been scanned in for your viewing pleasure...
ALSO, as some of you may be aware the USA release of Blair on DVD was windowboxed.
While this did maintain the 4x3 aspect of the original picture, it also
added the black bars to the top bottom AND sides of the picture!!! This really did seem
rather stupid to me (even though this is EXACTLY how it appeared on the actual print), and
last night I was ever so pleased to see that the region 4 version is NOT windowboxed, BUT
4x3 Full Frame. So not only does it maintain the correct aspect ratio
BUT there are no sidebars. Studios
Influenced By DVD Sites
A Friend from work came across a very interesting article regarding the recent push from
DVD sites all over the world for Mr Lucas to pull his finger out and Release the Star Wars
Trilogy on DVD. Click HERE
for an interesting article from Wired (thanks for pointing out the
article Tim!)
Personal Loaning Just for MORE Hi-FI
It seems too damn easy these days to go out and get ones self a personal loan, or any loan
for that matter. Bernie keeps advertising on TV for Mutual, Aretha for Tamawood,
Harvey Norman have the every so irresistible 2 years interest free deals!!!
Just the other day I was lead into temptation with an amazingly good deal on some Quadral
speakers. Not having enough cash on me at the moment I thought..hmmm I wonder if
it's worth getting a personal loan for this?
So I did some ringing around and found out the following prices (trust me this is going
somewhere)
Okay, the Commonwealth's Personal Loan is something like this
Minimum Loan : $3000
Establishment Fee : $99
Interest rate : 11.5% pa (interest calc daily)
PLUS Government Stamp Duties totally around $60 for a $3000 loan
If you pay it off in 1 year, interest totals around $190 (monthly based)
Metway Offered This
Minimum Loan : $5000
Establishment Fee : $125
Interest rate : 12.95% pa (interest calc daily)
PLUS Government Stamp Duties should be about $90 or so
If you pay it off in 1 year, interest totals around $357 (monthly based)
NOW The Metway guy suggested to me that I
go for their VISA EXTRAS OPTION
I'm thinking this is some whizbang addition to my existing VISA card, but it turned out to
be simply ANOTHER VISA CARD....One that DOESN'T have the 55 day interest free period, Has
NO Establishment Fees and No Annual card charges.
The catch is that you pay interested on Whatever you purchase on this card from
day One. Considering the initial outlay for one of these Personal
loans deals is going to be at LEAST $150, and then you've got the interest on top of that,
for smaller loan amounts this VISA CARD is a very neat idea.
Metway Offered This with the VISA OPTION
Card Limit : $2000 (can be upped easily)
Establishment Fee : $0
Interest rate : 12.75% pa (interest calc daily) (LOWER THAN THEIR PERS LOAN RATE!!)
If you pay it off in 1 year, interest totals around $211 (monthly based)
After being told all this I thought hmmmmm if I buy these Spekaers, by withdrawing the
money from the VISA CARD AND THEN everytime I get paid I put ALL my pay onto the VISA card
instead of keeping in my bank account (and then just withdrawing what I need for each
week from the VISA Card) I can Save even MORE on the interest amount!!.
It may fluctuate a bit between pays, but overall the interest rate will be waaay down, and
no way near the $190 interest owning if I got the CBA loan, as the CBA loan is based on
ALL $3000 being taken out at once and replaced a bit at a time, whereas with the VISA Card
Way you "could" make Lump sum payments using your Pay from Work and then
withdraw from the VISA Card as needed. Make Sense?
Anyhoo, just thought I'd share this little Tip with anyone looking to buy MORE hi-fi as us
DVD'ers and Hi-Fi'ers tend to do FAR TOO OFTEN :-)...it's such an expensive hobby!!!
If any of this doesn't make sense, then please drop
an email and I'll do my best to explain it better. MG

Over at Mike
D's is a poll to find out who has experienced the nasty glitch on the
recently released Far and Away DVD from CTHV. If you have this Region 2/4 PAL DVD
and haven't had your say, please do so as I am sure that Columbia, with
their stringent standards for DVD releases, would like to know as much as they can about
this as they just may do something about it.
